Indians Ousted From State Tournament
The Chipola Indians baseball squad started the 2012 FCSAA State Baseball Tournament in Lakeland just like they finished up the Panhandle Conference season. Chipola won their final 12 conference games to capture the conference championship and they opened up play in Lakeland with two wins. But the Indians stumbled in game three and then got shelled in their fourth outing, which eliminated them from the tournament. With that elimination the Indians hopes of repeating as the state champions dashed.
County Baseball Teams Fall In Playoffs
Jackson County sent three teams into the FHSAA Baseball playoffs, with one starting play last Thursday and the other two beginning their playoffs on Tuesday. That's the good news. The bad news is that all three teams lost in action on Tuesday night
The Marianna Bulldogs captured the Class 4A District One tournament with a monumental win over the Crusaders of Pensacola Catholic and in doing so played host to Florida High last Thursday in the Class 4A Regional quarter-finals. The Bulldogs sent left handed ace Michael Mader to the mound and got another stellar performance en route to an 8-3 victory.
Indians Begin State Tournament
The Chipola Indians baseball squad begins play in the FCSAA State Baseball Tournament on Thursday at 3 pm against Indian River State College. Chipola has now strung together a twelve winning streak and are currently ranked # 4 in the Florida polls. They improved to 37-15 overall and 16-4 in conference play. Indian River will enter the tournament ranked #8 in the Florida polls. Northwest Florida State finished as the Panhandle Conference runner up and will play on Thursday at 9 am against #1 ranked Polk State.
Baseball Districts Underway
County high school baseball squads took to their respective diamonds this week as the FHSAA District Tournaments have gotten underway.
Three teams have been taking part in the Class 1A District Three tournament being held in Altha. On Monday night the outcome was disappointing for two of the three county teams. The Cottondale Hornets fell to the Gators of Wewahitchka by a score of 8-5. The Gators took advantage of several Hornet errors and jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Cottondale came back in the second inning though to narrow the margin. Thomas Lipford led off with a single and later came home to score on a RBI singled by Jake Kernoschak. Moments later Kernoschak was able to score on an infield single by Trent Jackson.

Indians Clinch Berth In State Tournament
The Chipola Indians baseball squad has gotten hotter than a July firecracker at just the right time of the conference schedule. Chipola has now won eight straight conference games and in doing so have secure a berth in the upcoming FCSAA State Tournament. That tournament will be held May 3-7 at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland. The only question now is will they go to Lakeland as the Panhandle Conference Champion or runner up. As of Tuesday the Indians had a two game lead over second place Northwest Florida State. Chipola was scheduled to play Tallahassee on Wednesday however results of that contest were not available at press time. A Chipola win over Tallahassee and a Northwest Florida loss to Gulf Coast would result in the Indians capturing the conference championship.
