Jackson Correctional K-9 Missing - LuLu
On Saturday, May 12, the Jackson Correctional Institution K-9 team responded to a call for assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. Once the team cleared the call and arrived back at the Institution they found that one of the dog boxes had not been secured and a dog, "LuLu," was missing. This dog is very valuable to the team and has been responsible for the capture of nearly ten suspects in Jackson County. Lulu is partnered with Sgt. Charlie Price, who raised the eight year old dog from a puppy.

Shaking & Baking on an ATV on a Saturday Afternoon
On Saturday, May 12, the Jackson County Drug Task Force attempted a traffic stop on an ATV on Shalimar Road near the intersection of Dellwood - Cypress Road near Cypress, Florida. The ATV pulled to the side of the roadway and stopped. When the Deputy exited his vehicle to make contact with the operators, the ATV sped away. The Deputy pursued the ATV on Shalimar Road to the intersection of Highway 90 where the ATV then turned east on the southern shoulder of Highway 90. The ATV traveled a short distance before trying to enter the wooded area on the south side of Highway 90.
Traffic Stop = Drug Arrest
On May 14th, at around 5:00 p.m., officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Jefferson St. on a Red, Kia passenger vehicle for an equipment violation. Upon approaching the vehicle officers observed the passenger in the vehicle (Collins) toss something under the vehicle which was later found to be a metal smoking pipe. A Probable cause search of the vehicle was then conducted and officers were able to locate a small amount of a white substance under the passenger seat which field tested positive for crack cocaine.

Counterfeit $10 & $20 bills
In the past several weeks, person(s) have been passing counterfeit $10.00 and $20.00 bills to businesses in the Marianna, Greenwood and Malone area. Anyone with information as to the identity of the person(s) counterfeiting and/or passing these bills contact the Jackson County Sheriff's Office at 850-482-9648 or Crime Stoppers at 850-526-5000.
Family Hijacked At Grand Ridge Exit
In the early morning hours of May 9, Laura Maldonado was traveling with her 2 year old and 12 year old daughters westbound on I-10 on a trip from Haines City to Texas. Maldonado stopped at the BP station at the Grand Ridge / Blountstown exit to fuel. That stop was about to become a horror story for Laura and her children.
As she stepped out of her car she was approached by white male. The male told her he needed her car and displayed a gun. Horrified, she opened the back door and her 12 year old daughter quickly gave the 2 year old daughter to her as the man entered into the drivers seat and began to speed off. The 12 year old daughter managed to jump from the moving car, resulting in bruises and abrasions.
Vandalism In Indian Springs
Three juvenile males and one eighteen year old girl identified as Adrianna Elmore of Marianna have been detained and charged in regards to a spree of vandalism and burglary which took place in the Indian Springs subdivision Sunday night. Several residents awoke Monday morning to find their homes defaced with spray painted graffiti. Also three vehicles were burglarized, and one car was spray painted.
In a possibly related incident, on Friday or Saturday night someone crushed, spray painted or otherwise damaged around thirty mail boxes and some stop signs in an area south of Marianna on State Road 73 and Pooser Road.
Car Jacking in Grand Ridge

The 12 yoa daughter jumped from the moving car resulting in bruises and abrasions.
Primary Drug Supplier Arrested
On Monday, May 1, the Houston County Sheriff's Office arrested Calvin Lee Rhynes on active warrants out of Houston County, Alabama and Jackson County, Florida. The warrants stem from an ongoing investigation by the Houston County Sheriff's Office and Jackson County Drug Task Force involving Rhynes selling substantial amounts of crack cocaine.
During the investigation it was determined that Rhynes has been a primary supplier of crack cocaine in Campbellton, Jacob, and Graceville, Florida, as well as communities in southern Houston County, Alabama.
Relationship Comes To Unhappy End
On Saturday, May 5, officers from the Marianna Police Department received a complaint that a female was being held at gunpoint by her boyfriend Charles Earl Collins at 2839 Davey Street Marianna, Florida.
Upon arrival officers could hear the woman screaming for help. Officers located Collins as he walked to the front porch of the residence in a fit of rage demanding officers to leave. Collins was subdued and secured pending investigation. After conducting an investigation, officers determined Collins used a kitchen knife in an attempt to cut the woman's throat. Collins then slung the knife at her in an attempt to stab her. She escaped to another room in the residence; meanwhile Collins retrieved a firearm and placed it in her face and threatened to kill her. Collins was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Jail Facility where he will be held for first appearance.
