Cottondale Elementary Wins 5th Grade Academic Bowl

Written by Staff 17 May 2012 Published in Community

"We did it!!! We won!!!" were the resounding squeals that emitted from our, Cottondale Elementary, 5th grade Academic Bowl team members C.J., Aaron, Lilly, McKenzie, Bethany, and Scotlynn. All through training and preparation, the team had but one goal and that was to focus on strategies and content. They were also spurred on by those who had won years prior.

The team expressed its desire to share the joy of the moment with Cottondale Elementary administrators Principal Brenda Jones, and Assistant Principal Zanda Warren, along with our fifth grade teachers Angela Hall and Tracy Zick, and all those who taught them earlier in their academic careers. All of the involved parents provided wonderful and unending support to the program.

Catchin' Up with "SAC" on Mother's Day

Also Catchin' Up With Another Special Mother

Finally, after a year I caught up with 'Ms. Ruby' as called by most people in the Graceville Community. I was anxious to learn more about her because my sister, Inie Ree Ables Jones, and brother Walter 'Buddy' Ables, {both deceased} and our parents came along together. Today, the name 'Will Gainer' causes many of us to take notice to what is about to be said. 'Mr. Will Gainer' was a 'well-to-do' farmer and lived in the Browntown Community, and owned property in Graceville as well. He, along with 'Mr. Wes Broxton' another well-to-do business man, also lived in the Browntown Community, and ventured out into what was called 'Old Town' especially the 'black' community. Both owned property and rented property.
