PATRICK BLAKE IS NEW CHIPOLA MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH

Patrick Blake was introduced as the new men's basketball coach at Chipola College during a press conference Monday, April 23.

Blake served as Assistant Coach at Chipola during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. The Indians finished second in the Panhandle Conference this season and lost to Central Florida in the first round of the state tournament. In 2011, Chipola finished second in the State Tournament.


The Hope School Falcons Win State Title

Early Friday morning Head Coach Holland loaded up a bus with his Falcon basketball team in hopes of winning the Special Olymipics state title. (see video below) The Falcons have won the title twice recently in 2007 and 2009. The team spirit was high and it was easy to tell the players were excited to go.

Their first game was played at 1:30 that afternoon and in the first round they took down Marion County to move up into the finals. In the finals the Falcons faced their old rival Leon County who they beat by a score of 17-22 to take home the gold. Congratulations to the Coach Holland and the entire Falcon team. Jackson County is proud of you.



The Greenwood Dragons

This week's Yesteryear athletes are the 1961-62 Greenwood Dragons basketball team. In the team picture they are (left – right) Coach Wallace Grant, Farris Matthews, Jim Golson, Buddy Nobles, Laurence Pender, David Guy, Charlie Parramore, Randall Fears, Roland Fears, Sidney Martin and Manager Nels Jensen. The other photos is of the five seniors and they are Randall Fears, Laurence Pender, Charlie Parramore, David Guy and Sidney Martin.

Chipola Splits To Open Conference Play

The Chipola College women's and men's basketball squads opened up the 2012 Panhandle Conference scheduled this past Saturday by sweeping Tallahassee and then returned home for a Tuesday night matchup against top ranked Northwest Florida State College.


Hornets Hang On For Win Over Tigers

The first time these two teams met (December 9th in Graceville) Cottondale jumped out to a huge lead and then held off a late Tiger rally for an 8 point win. Friday night's version of this big county and district rivalry in Cottondale was a slugfest from start to finish. But in the end though, it was the Hornets who again come out on top with a 55-51 win. A month ago Cottondale led by 17 points going into the fourth quarter. On Friday night the Hornets biggest lead of the game was 9 points and the Tigers actually held a brief lead late in the third quarter.


Indians Win Three In Classic To Remain Unbeaten; Lady Indians Pick Up Two Wins

The Chipola Indians played host to the Panhandle Classic this past weekend and came away with three wins. In doing so the Indians remain unbeaten, improving to 11-0 on the season. In the first night of action the Indians downed #4 Brevard 65-46. Chipola jumped out to an early 11-0 lead and led 32-14 at the half. Joseph Uchebo led the team with 11 points while Earl Watson followed with 10.
