After 15 years in business in Marianna, Bobby Simmons is calling it quits. The owner of Simmons Service, a repair and sales business for heat pumps and air conditioning, explained his decision to Business News on Monday: "It's due to the economy and the fact that my customers can now buy equipment online cheaper that I can," he said. Regulations for the purchase of cooling equipment that dealers must comply with can be avoided by individuals. "I'm cut out of the loop for sales of products, and I can't make a living doing repairs," Simmons said. "I'm going back to being a handyman where I will not need a business license."

Simmons Service is closing at the end of February. For sale is the shop building and two acres at 2835 south Caledonia and "all the equipment needed to run an air conditioning business, including two vans." Simmons said he is also laying off three employees. For more info, call 526-2668.
