Marianna Middle dominates in jamboree

The Marianna Middle School Bullpups football team is under new leadership this year and they started out with a bang.  The Bullpups traveled to Cottondale last Tuesday night to take on the Graceville Middle School Tigers in a pre-season jamboree.  Coach Jamie Goodwin, long-time assistant to former coaches Brad Cross and Hunter Nolen, took over as head coach this year and could not have asked for better results.

The Bullpups took on the Graceville Tigers in the first two quarters of the jamboree. The first score was set up by a fumble recovered by Giovanni Scott and returned to the 30-yard line. They did not waste any time in scoring from there on a four-yard run by Tremaine Bell.   Bell then found the end zone for the two-point conversion.

The second score came from the legs of Tremaine Bell also.  This time it was a two-yard run into the end zone to put the Bullpups up 14-0. The conversion failed but the Pups were in control.  This play was again set up by a long run, 40 yards to the Graceville 14-yard line.  The score remained 14-0 at the half.

In the third quarter, Giovanni Scott made the best of a sack when he forced a fumble from Graceville quarterback Donte Clapton. Marianna recovered the ball at the 20-yard line.  Bell ran it in from the 15-yard line to put Marianna up by 20-0.  Nykeem Gainer made good on the conversion to make it a 24-0 Marianna game.

Bell made good on a 48-yard run on the very next offensive play but there was no further scoring.

Marianna was scheduled to open their regular season on the road against Riversprings in Crawfordville. Graceville was also scheduled to be on the road at Vernon.
