Chipola's Akhator Continues To Rack Up Awards

Chipola's Akhator Continues To Rack Up Awards

For the second time this season, Chipola Lady Indian Evelyn Akhator has been named the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

This second honor comes after a yet another very successful week on the hardwoods. Akhator averaged 23 points and 16 rebounds a game, heavily contributing to Chipola’s 10-0 season.

During the period for which Akhator was selected this second time, she put up 47 points and recorded 49 rebounds in three games.

Coach Greg Franklin is quick to acknowledge Akhator is very much deserving of this honor, “Well, she makes me look like a good coach, makes me look like I know what I’m doing. When you’re best player is your hardest worker, it makes my job easier.”

Akhator is far from letting all the hype go to her head, “It’s an honor and I just try to work hard and get better every game.”

Following a week break from games, the Chipola Lady Indians return home this weekend to host the Chipola Classic, December 12-13. They will be pitted against Georgia Highlands at 7 p.m. Friday, with Eastern Florida State following on Saturday at 4 p.m.
