Hornets sting Pirates in Friday night hoops

Last Friday night, the Cottondale varsity Hornets welcomed county rival Sneads and turned the tables after the junior varsity fell to the Pirates.  It was Cottondale picking up the 54-43 win over the Pirates.

Cottondale outscored Sneads 13-9 in the first quarter. For Sneads, Chris McCollough led his team with five points. Spencer Hart added a bucket. Cottondale’s Ty’Keece Bryant and De’Shaun Hudson had a pair of buckets each. 

The Hornets made it two quarters in a row with a 21-13 second-quarter, giving Cottondale a 34-20 lead at the halfway mark. The Pirates were led by Chase Harrell with a pair of threes. Trent Smith had a shot from downtown and went two-for-two from the line. Cottondale’s De’Shaun Hudson led his team with eight points, including a three pointer and a pair of buckets. Dayron Garrett checked in with seven points, including a three. Dalvin Barnes had a shot from downtown and a basket. 

In the third quarter, Cottondale posted 11 points and held the visiting Pirates to just four points. Sneads’ Estavious Smith scored both buckets for his team. For the Hornets, Dayron Garrett checked in with five points. Dalvin Barnes had a pair of buckets, followed by De’Shaun Hudson with a basket of his own. After three periods of play, Cottondale was in control 45-24 with eight minutes remaining in the game. 

Sneads rallied in the fourth and took the quarter 19-9, but that was not enough for the Pirates to pick up the win. For the Hornets, Dalvin Barnes led with six points, that included a pair of baskets. De’Shaun Hudson had a shot from downtown. For Sneads, Spencer Hart had seven points, including a three and a pair of baskets. Chris McCollough had a trio of buckets, followed by Estavious Smith with four points. 

Leading Cottondale on the night with 17 points was De’Shaun Hudson. Dalvin Barnes added 15 points to his stats. On board with 14 points was Dayron Garrett. 

Chris McCollough led the Pirates with 11 points on the night. Spencer Hart checked in with nine points, followed by Estavious Smith with eight.
