Sneads picks up 39-8 win over Graceville after layoff

Jackson County Football teams took the field Friday night after two weeks of no Friday Night Lights due to Hurricane Michael’s visit through the county. Sneads and Graceville opted for a rematch to get their players some much needed live game time with Sneads hosting the Tigers. It wasn’t the outcome the Tigers would have liked, but the home team Pirates and their fans were smiling big when they left the field with a 39-8 victory.

The two teams were tightly matched in the first quarter with Sneads coming out a touchdown ahead 14-8 after one period of play.

The second quarter was all Snead with the Pirates adding 13 points to make it a 27-8 half-time lead.

The Pirates added their final 12 points in the third quarter with both teams posting goose eggs in the fourth and final quarter, giving Sneads a 38-8 win.

Xavian Sorey scored the lone touchdown for the Tigers with Joe Claiborne adding the two-point conversion.

Scoring for the Pirates was Calvin Stringer with two touchdowns on the ground, with Colton Mercer and Seth Scott adding a rushing touchdown each. Dylan Dawson and Courtavious Garrett both had a touchdown each.

Mercer was 1-for-4 for 38 yards with Garrett going 1-for-1 for ten yards. Stringer led his team with 86 yards rushing on 16 carries, followed by Scott with 48 yards on seven carries. Mercer had six carries for 43 yards, with Garrett picking up 29 yards on four carries and Alonzo Hill carrying five times for 13 yards.

Mercer had one reception for 10 yards with Garrett pulling down one for 36 yards.

Seth Scott led the team with 10 solo tackles and seven assists, while Jaheim Garrett had nine solo and six assists. J. Nathan Hayes recorded six solo and five assists, followed by Ryder McDaniel and D’Angelo Mandeck with four tackles each. Mandeck added four assists while McDaniel added one assist.
