Victor Debeux kicks off for MHS Victor Debeux kicks off for MHS Charlie Reiff

Friday night, the Marianna Bulldogs traveled to Walton High School to take on the Braves. This was the 88th time that the ‘Dawgs and the Braves had met; Marianna won last year and Walton won the year before. The ‘Dawgs were looking for their first win of the season and they got just that.

The Braves won the toss and chose to defer to the second half. The Bulldogs set up to receive and Damone Rolle set the tone early. Rolle made a 90-yard kickoff return to score the ‘Dawgs first touchdown of the night. Victor Debeux sent the kick straight through the uprights and the ‘Dawgs led 7-0.

The Braves fumbled the ball on their first possession and the ‘Dawgs recovered. Unfortunately, they didn’t capitalize and the ‘Dawgs were forced to punt giving the ball back to the Braves. The Dawg defense held the Braves until they were forced to settle for a field goal.

On the first play of the next possession, Damone Rolle brought the Bulldog fans to their feet on a 68-yard run for the next Bulldog touchdown.

In the second quarter, Victor Dubeux kicked a field goal for the ’Dawgs bringing the score to 17-3. The Braves made their first and only touchdown before the end of the half. The Bulldogs responded by scoring their third touchdown with 51 seconds left in the half. This time it was  Jeremiah Castro finding the end zone, making it a 24-10 halftime score.

In the third quarter, the ‘Dawgs were the recipient of a safety set up by a punt deep in Braves territory by Brady Donaldson.  This widened the gap to 26-10.

The ‘Dawgs scored their final touchdown on a pass from Brady Donaldson to Ahmad Johnson to secure their 33-10 victory.

Both teams were kept off the scoreboard in the final quarter.

Damone Rolle had four runs for a total of 84 yards. Jeremiah Castro had 10 carries for a total of 58 yards. Ahmad Johnson had 28 yards on six carries. Jaden Smith had one run for 28 yards.

Ahmad Johnson added two receptions for a total of 68 yards. Jeremiah Castro brought down one reception for a total of 15 yards. Ben Herman made one reception for nine yards. Noah Shores made one reception for five yards.

“We finally put some things together tonight and made some big plays,”  head coach John Donaldson spoke about the outcome of the night.

This week the ‘Dawgs have an off week. Their next game will be against East Gadsden on October 5th at Bulldog Stadium. This game will be the annual Pink Out Game. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
