Marianna Majors all-stars are making a statement in Bristol during the Florida Dixie Youth Majors State Tournament. They are 3-0 and looking for a state championship.  They opened Saturday with a solid 13-0 shut out of Holmes County. The rain didn’t dampen the Marianna Majors spirits one iota Sunday as they handed Liberty County a 12-1 loss.  Monday night, Marianna shut out Chipley 10-0.

For each game, the umpires select an MVP from the winning team and a sportsmanship award from the losing team.  Cameron Odom was awarded MVP Saturday night with Isaiah Spencer taking the honors Sunday and Monday. In Monday’s game, it was virtually a tossup between a smorgasbord of players with Jacobi Hall, Cameron Odom or Brady Brock playing at the next level. Catcher Trent DeFelix donned the catcher’s gear through 95+ weather in every game.

Marianna shuts out Holmes County

Marianna picked up one run in the second inning when Jacobi Hall leading off with a walk and moving to second on a sac by Trent DeFelix. Jonathan Thomas singled to put runners on the corners and with two outs, Parker Willis singled Hall home.

A pair of one-out hits by Brady Brock and Cameron Odom were the only offense of the third inning. The wheels came off for Holmes County in the fourth inning with Marianna plating eight runs before the inning came to a close.  Isaiah Spencer, Brady Brock, Cameron Odom, Jacobi Hall, Trent DeFelix, Caleb Thomas, and Aaron Johnson all reached and scored with DeFelix making it across home plate twice in the inning. Parker Willis reached twice but did not cross the plate with Thomas also reaching a second time and not scoring.

Marianna wasn’t done as they added four runs in the final inning to solidify the win. Isaiah Spencer Cameron Odom, Jacobi Hall, and Caleb Thomas all reached base and scored for Marianna with Corey Williams also reaching but not scoring.

Marianna deals Liberty County 12-1 loss

Marianna took diamond Sunday evening after weather delays but their spirits nor talent were dampened by the rain. They posted 12 runs with eight of those runs coming in the final inning to defeat Liberty County and move one step closer to a state championship.

Marianna scored one run in the first inning when Isaiah Spencer singled and moved to second on a sac by Brady Brock.  Cameron Odom advanced him to third before Jacobi Hall singled him home.

Caleb Thomas, Corey Williams, and Parker Willis all reached in the second inning but no runs crossed the plate.  Marianna added two runs in the third inning starting with one out. Sergio Wamble singled and moved to second on a single by Isaiah Spencer. Brady Brock singled home Wamble before a sac by Cameron Odom scored Spencer.

A two-out hit by Corey Williams was the only offense for the Marianna team in the fourth inning.   Marianna added one run in the fifth inning.  With on out, Isaiah Spencer singled and moved to second on a sac fly by Brady Brock.  A passed ball allowed the speedster Spencer to cross the plate before the inning ended.

The offense exploded in the final inning with Spencer, Brock, Cameron Odom, Jacobi Hall, Trent DeFelix, Caleb Thomas, Parker Willis, and Aaron Johnson all reaching and scoring.

Marianna shut out Chipley Monday night 10-0.  Stats were not available but will be in next week’s edition of the TIMES.
