Marianna wrestlers are headed to state

The Marianna High School Wrestling team has had a phenomenal year with champions after champions and vast personal improvements throughout the season.  This past weekend, the team competed in regionals and from that event, two Bulldog wrestlers are now headed to state!

Cole Maddox who is the 2nd place Region 1 State Qualifier and Ethan Ellis is the 4th place Region 1 State Qualifier are headed to state.

The good news did not stop there.  Although those two are the only ones advancing to state, Marianna wrestlers gave their competition much more than they planned on.  In day one at regionals, Neal Smith, John Maddox, Corey Davis, and Jason Rudd remained in the hunt to go to State.  Trent Foust, Noah Johnson, and Jonah Mercer all made great strides during the season to make it to regionals.

In wrestlebacks, John Maddox and Corey Davis both got a win to stay in but fell in the final round.

Cole Maddox and Ethan Ellis will be competing to bring home a pair of state championship titles Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3 in Kissimmee.

Congratulations to the MHS wrestlers on an awesome season and good luck to Cole Maddox and Ethan Ellis as they compete for a state championship from the publisher and staff of the Jackson County Times.
