Shayheed Williams is a freshman at Sneads High School and is easily recognizable by his iconic smile. According to his teachers and staff at Sneads High School, Shayheed is never without his smile and a kind word for everyone he meets.
This is Shayheed’s first experience at competitive basketball, making the Pirates Junior Varsity team. His coach, Pat Jones says of Williams, “Shayheed is a very respectful, fun, and energetic young man who does whatever you ask of him. He has a natural drive to please people and puts forth 110% in everything he does.”
Shayheed’s popularity shined bright a few weeks ago on the court when he was fouled going for a three-point shot. To basketball fans everywhere, that is an everyday occurrence. Player goes to the line, makes or doesn’t make his shots and they return to play. Not so when Shayheed stepped to the line for his first of three shots. The freebie from the charity stripe was nothing but net and the crowd could be heard outside the gym. Shayheed did not make all three shots, but he could not have had more applause if he had or if he had made a shot from center court. The influence Shayheed has on his teammates is a rarity and one to be truly admired.
In an interview with Williams following a ballgame, he was so very humble and honest. His favorite subjects in school are science, math, and computer. He is quick to say, “I like them all really though but I think those are my favorite ones.” One of his teachers, Joyce Baggett says of Williams, “He loves math, gives us 100% every day all day long. He is a joy to everyone.”
Shayheed says he likes playing basketball and likes his teammates and coaches, “It’s fun to shoot the basketball and really fun when you make a goal.”
Shayheed is a very positive influence not only on the basketball court but at Sneads High School as well.
