Greenwood man arrested on multiple charges

  • Written by  Jackson County Sheriff’s Office

On Tuesday November 1st, 2016 the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a verbal disturbance located at the corner of Hwy 73 and Filmore Drive Marianna, Florida.  Upon arrival, deputies spoke with Frederick Johnston, who advised that his residence on Smith Street in Greenwood, Florida had been burglarized and that he was there to confront Shannon Morris, whom he thought had committed the burglary.  Johnston was advised to return home and report the burglary to the Sheriff’s Office so a deputy could respond and take the report.

Shortly thereafter, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Charles Sims advising that Johnston had cut four tires on his vehicle and that he was in fear of Johnston.  Deputies made contact with Sims at a residence on Hwy 73 in Marianna, Florida who advised that he went to Johnston’s residence in Greenwood to see him and upon arrival; Johnston approached him with a pitchfork and ordered him to drive him to Marianna.  Johnston threatened to kill Sims if he did not do as he was told.  Sims drove Johnston to a residence on Hwy 73 and Johnston exited the vehicle and confronted Morris and threatened him.  While at the residence, Johnston cut all four tires on Sims vehicle causing approx. $1000 damage and also stole $160.00 from Sims wallet.

Deputies then made contact back with Johnston at his residence on Smith Street in Greenwood, Florida and read him his Miranda Warnings and spoke with him regarding the allegations made against him.  Johnston did admit to getting into Sims vehicle with the pitchfork but denied threatening him and admitted to cutting his tires believing Sims assisted Morris with burglarizing his home.

Based on the evidence found at the scene and statements taken, Frederick J. Johnston was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, False Imprisonment, Felony Criminal Mischief, and Armed Burglary. Johnston was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.

Arrested: Frederick J. Johnston, 49 years of age, Greenwood, Fl.

Charges: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, felony criminal mischief, armed burglary
