Ada Mae Hill Baggett

Ada Mae Hill Baggett age 78 of Altha passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018. She was a native of Jackson County born on January 1, 1940 to the late Charlie and Floria Lewis Hill.  Ada Mae has lived 50 plus years in Calhoun County. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Billy B. Baggett, siblings Evelyn Baggett, Edna Brock, J.C. “Buck” Hill, and Donald E. Hill.

Ada Mae is survived by her son Michael B. Baggett and wife Robin of Altha, daughter Melanie B. Baggett and fiance John B. Hill of Marianna, brother Carlos L. Hill and wife Gladys of Marianna, grandchildren Hunter B.J.Baggett and wife Rena, special cousin Bruce Hill of Panama City Beach, and “other daughter” Judy Bodiford, as well as other nieces, nephews and friends.

Services for Ada Mae will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 29, 2018 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Dustin Malphurs and Chaplain Flavious Pittman officiating. Interment will follow at 12:00 PM in Mount Olive Cemetery in Altha. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 3015 Jefferson Street, Marianna, Florida 32446, or charity of choice.

A special thanks to the nurses and staff at Jackson Hospital, Marianna Health & Rehab Center, and Emerald Coast Hospice for their care of our mother during her brief illness.

Donald W. Johns

Donald W. Johns age 87 of Cottondale passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 26, 2018. He was born in Fort Myers on July 30, 1931 to the late Earnest James  and Viola Byrd Johns. Donald spent most of his life in Cottondale where he worked as a State Inspector for the Department of Agriculture. He was a member and past deacon of the First Baptist Church.  Donald loved his family dearly and cherished every minute spent with them. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and was an avid sports fan. 

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clara Johns; siblings, Fred Johns, Cecil Johns, E.J Johns, Lawrence Johns, and Voncile Johns. 

He is survived by his children, Jerry Johns, Jeanie Gorton and husband Douglas, Denise Byrd and husband Tim; grandchildren, Jennifer, Alex, Evan, Jeremy, Luke, and one great grandchild, Bodhi.

A time of visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Cottondale First Baptist Church Cemetery.

Daisy McAlpin Peacock

Daisy McAlpin Peacock age 87 of Rocky Creek passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 in Panama City, Florida. She was born in Gadsden County, FL on April 13, 1931 to the late Gordon and Mary Lou McAlpin. Mrs. Daisy was a lifelong resident of Jackson County and a graduate of Marianna High School Class of 1948. She was a member of the Rocky Creek Baptist Church where she had served faithfully in many areas. She was a volunteer of Habitat for Humanity for 25 years, Eldercare Services, Senior Citizens Board and the VA. Daisy was known for her friendly smile and warm personality she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Peacock, son Gordon Drew “Jackie” Peacock and sister Louise Pumphrey.

Daisy is survived by one son Billy Fulgham Peacock of Marianna, two daughters Cora Jane Walker and husband James of Marianna, Deborah Annette McMullian of Tallahassee, one sister Annette Lippencott of Panama City, five grandchildren Joseph David McMullian II and wife Cathy, Cora Ranee McMullian both of Tallahassee, James Brian Walker of Marianna, Brandon Drew Peacock of Marianna, and Brittany Elizabeth Peacock of South Carolina, two great grandchildren Tyler Marie McMullian and Kyle David McMullian.

Services for Daisy will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 26, 2018 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Mr. Bill Wester and Dr. John Venell officiating. Interment will follow in Sims Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

In lieu flowers donations may be made to Rocky Creek Baptist Church, Kitchen Fund, 5458 Rocky Creek Road, Marianna, Florida 32448.

George W. Benefield, Jr.

George W. Benefield, Jr. age 48 of Alford passed away Monday, December 17, 2018 in Jackson Hospital. 

Jr. was a native of Alford born on February 2, 1970 to the late George W. Benefield, Sr. and Glenda Odom. He was known to be a  “Jack of all trades”, who enjoyed hunting and fishing in Spring Creek and the Chipola River. 

Jr. had a heart of gold and will be missed by many.

Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, paternal & maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is survived by his children Derek Benefield of Marianna, Levi Benefield of Cottondale, Urijah Brannon of Alford and Atreyu Brannon of Alford, brothers Shaun Allen Benefield (Angela) of Georgetown, Ga, and Christopher Lee Benefield of Alford,  and sister Vicki Lynn Benefield Barber(Dewayne) of  Cottondale.

 Jr. is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and special friend Donnie Shores, Jr. of Kynesville.

A celebration of life service for Jr. will be held at 6:00 P.M., Thursday, December 20, 2018 in the Marianna Chape Funeral Home with Rev. Rich Ellison officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
