Michael Richard Claus

Michael Richard Claus age 35 of Marianna, Florida passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018. He was born in Easton, Pennsylvania on July 8, 1983. Michael was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed attending the races. He also loved playing video games and camping. 

Michael is survived by his father, Donald Claus II (Lisa) of Marianna, Florida; mother, Abby Balliet (Edward) of Marianna, Florida; brother, Joshua Claus of Marianna, Florida; sister, Krysta Williams (Travis) of Crystal Lake, Florida; nephews, Aiden Williams, Austin Williams, and his best friend “Brother”, Steven Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

William T. Layton

William T. Layton age 70 of Marianna passed away on, Friday, August 24, 2018 at his home.

He was a resident of Marianna for 10 years, coming here from Georgia and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the local VFW, Moose Lodge and the Civic Club.

Mr. Layton was retired from the U. S. Army, a veteran of the Vietnam War, a postal worker and a past EMS Director in Thomas County, GA. His favorite past times were going to Sadies and the Graceville Auction, collecting knives and playing golf.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Mary Kathryn Layton, sister Helen Layton Roddenberry and his mother-in-law Esther Cadenhead.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Cadenhead Layton of Marianna; son Brian Layton and wife Scarlet of Lynn Haven, FL, step-sons Scott Whiddon and wife Kortney of Bonifay, FL., Gary Wright of Marianna, Michael Whiddon of St. Augustine, FL and step-daughter Shawanda Hull of Bonifay, FL; brothers-in-law, Jerome Cadenhead, Sebring, FL, Jerry Cadenhead and wife, Tina of Ohio, Mike Cadenhead and Adrienne Cadenhead of Bonifay, FL, Kevin Cadenhead and  wife Karen of Winchester, Tn, Danny Cadenhead of Milton, FL; sisters Merle Layton Isgett of Hilton Head, S.C., grandchildren Dakota, Layton, Jaron Hickman, Trent Hickman (Chelsey); step-grandchildren, Johnathon Whiddon, Nathan Whiddon, Kelby Campbell, Michael Hull, Anna Hull and Kara Langford; great grandchildren, Alec Hickman, Brantley Hickman and Emma Cravens; best friend Tony Swearingen and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his Graceville Auction family. 

The funeral service for William will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 and 2:00 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Layton officiating. Military honors will be by the Fort Rucker honor guard. The local VFW is asked to be honorary pallbearers.

A time of visitation will be held on Monday evening August 27, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.  

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Homeless Veterans.

Mary Sue Hays

Mary Sue Hays, 65, passed away peacefully on August 18th at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. She was born March 18th, 1953, in Franklin Furnace Ohio to Carl and Helen Hacker. She married her high school sweetheart Jack Hays in October of 1971. She is a graduate of Shawnee State University and worked as an Registered Nurse for more than 30 years. She most enjoyed the years spent as a labor and delivery nurse and loved to care for new babies in the nursery. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was never happier than when she was at home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband Jack Hays, her five children Patrick Hays, Jack Hays, Nathan Hays, Erin McKeown, Sarah Hays and her eight grandchildren Kirsten, Brendan, Paige, Jonathon, Addison, Ava, Isabella and Austin. A celebration of life will be held and the Cypress Community Center in Cypress, FL on Saturday August 25th from 3:00pm – 5:00pm cst.

Nancy Elizabeth Melvin

Nancy Elizabeth Melvin age 76 of Alford passed away on Monday, August 20, 2018. She was born on October 2, 1941 in Miami, Florida. Nancy moved from Hollywood, Florida to Alford, Florida in 1973. She was a loving mother and wonderful homemaker that enjoyed  cooking for her family.  Nancy enjoyed being outside gardening, and was an avid reader. She was of the Protestant faith and attended Rivertown Community Church.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Ella Weeks and one sister, Thelma Scott. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, James Edward Melvin of Alford, Florida; children, James Edward Melvin (II) of Tallahassee, Florida, Roxy Melvin of Alford, Florida, and Robin Whitfield (Will) of Bonifay, Florida; grandchildren, Brittany Ballard Rex (Darin), Breanna Ballard Johns (Adam), Ben Whitfield (Rebecca), Nicholas Melvin, and Noah Melvin; great grandchildren, Jonah Rex, Josiah Rex, Charlize Whitfield, and Jameson Beau Whitfield.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2018 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
