Tony Lee Shumaker, II

Tony Lee Shumaker, II age 45 of Alford passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019 in Jackson Hospital. He was born on May 29, 1973 to his late mother Debralee J. Walling and father Tony Lee Shumaker, Sr.  Tony moved to Jackson County in 1986 from Maryland. He enjoyed being a mechanic and had worked for King of Battle. Tony also enjoyed fishing, racing, cooking, and helping people.

He was preceded in death by his mother, grandfather Harold R. Pelton, II, his grandmother Betty Joyce Pelton, and grandmother Dale Anderson.

Tony is survived by his father Tony Lee Shumaker, Sr., his wife of 18 years Lynn Shumaker, sons Travlaen Shumaker, Nathan Shumaker, and Ashton Shumaker, brothers Christopher Shumaker (Sarah), Joseph Shumaker, and Shawn Nickels, sister Betty Jo, grandchildren Chloe and Paisley Shumaker, and Levi Johnson.

A Celebration of Life service for Tony will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, May 3, 2019 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until time of service.

Betty Joyce Pelton

Betty Joyce Pelton age 90 of Alford passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019. Betty was born in Portland, Oregon on October 11, 1928. She moved to Jackson County in 1986 from Maryland. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, and loved telling stories about “the good ole days”.  Betty was a caretaker by nature who loved taking care of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Earnest and Ethel Brown, husband Harold R. Pelton, II, daughter Debralee J. Walling, and her brother Dwayne Bassett.

She is survived by her sons Harold R. Pelton, III and Greg Nickels, grandchildren Tony Shumaker (Lynn), Christopher Shumaker, Joseph Shumaker, and Shawn Nickels, 10 great grandchildren, and 3 great -great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service for Betty will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, May 3, 2019 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until time of service.

Pedro T. Lopez

Pedro T. Lopez age 35 of Cottondale passed away after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born in Miami, Fl on January 17, 1984 and has been a resident of Cottondale for the past 26 years. Pedro was member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing basketball, and watching wrestling on tv. Pedro enjoyed watching Miami Hurricanes, Miami Heat, and the Miami Dolphins. He was a family man and loved spending time with his children.

He was preceded in death by one son, his grandparents, many aunts and uncles.

Pedro is survived by his father Pedro Felipe Lopez (Victoria), mother Maria Gonzalez (Gustavo), his loving wife Marisely Lopez, his children Yesenia Lopez, Pedro Lopez, Jr., and Kristian Lopez, brothers Barbaro Dominguez (Rebecca), Victor Gonzalez, Felix Batista (Hannah) Jamiley Gonzalez, Gustavo Gonzalez, Jr., Sandro Lopez, sister Joann Gonzalez, brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s Peter Ruiz (Rachel), Michelle Crose (Dalton), Jennifer Duncan (Caleb), Alain Adan, and Alex Adan,  in-laws Betty and Pete Ruiz. He is also survived by special friends and family Lorenzo Goodwin, Reuban Hill, Maurice Reading, Will Early, Brian Braxton, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

A Celebration of Life service for Pedro will be held at a later date and will be announced by Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.

Earnest Wayne Griffin

Mr.  Earnest Wayne Griffin was born on October 19, 1949 in Wise County, Virginia to the late Henry and Callie Griffin.  

Proceeding him in death are his brothers, Mr. Clarence Griffin, and Ballard Land.  

Mr. Griffin resided at Sunland since October 1986 prior to a short transfer to Tacachale in Gainesville, FL from May 15, 2001 until his return home to Sunland on December 10, 2001.  His last home here was Westside Apartments where the staff loved and cared for him.  

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted sister & Guardian Advocate, Lena Huggins of Homosasa, FL, two other sisters, Evelyn Zomora and Joanne Shepard both of Homosasa, FL as well as his entire Sunland Family. 

Services or Mr. Griffin will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 2, 2019 in the Sunland Chapel with Chaplin Ruthie Moore officiating. A time of remembrance will be held from 9:00 AM until time of service.
