Josephine Garrett-Gray

Life began for Mrs. Josephine Garrett-Gray, affectionately called Big Joe, Big Mama and Ms. Josie, of Marianna, Florida on November 2, 1935, to the late Coley Sr. and Alma Garrett.  She entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 16th at home.  She was 82 years old.

 A native of Jackson County, she was of the Baptist faith and a member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church.  She retired from the Florida State Hospital as a UTR Specialist after many years of employment.

 She was united in holy matrimony to the late Ben Gray.  They shared many wonderful years together. 

 Precious memories will forever remain with her sister, Nellie Garrett Black of Marianna, Florida; one brother, Coley Garrett, Jr.(Mary) of Miami, Florida; five grandchildren, Jenella Garrett Brown (Edward, Jr.), Natalie Garrett, Sylvia Garrett, Carlishia Garrett and Christy Garrett (Rashad); three grandson’s, Cedric Adams, James Barkley and Nathqrones Mullins; great grandchildren, JaVoris Garrett, Nakista Mobley, O’deisa Orange, Otis Orange, Precious & Brianna Manning, Radashia & Tytianna Peace, Adrian Washington, Elijah Brown, Edward Brown, III, Tony Brown, Micaiah Spence, Zion Perkins and Rashad Perkins Jr.; two nephews she raised as her own, Earl Smith and Kenderick Barkley; special goddaughter, Heather Johnson and children, Nykeem, NyKavian and Ny’Marion; special step daughter, Shirley Gray; special friends, Cleoa Johnson, Mable Leonard and Martha Baker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

 A homegoing service to celebrate Ms. Josie’s life will be held Saturday, July 21st at 2p.m. at  Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Dwight Cockerham, Sr., Rev. William Harvey, Rev. Freddie Roulhac and Rev. Lucious Williams officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.

 Ms. Josie’s remains will lie-in-repose for one hour prior to the 2p.m. funeral time on Saturday at Mt. Tabor.

Don Walter Peace

Mr. Don Walter Peace of Marianna entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 1st in Jackson Hospital.  He was 63 years old.

A native of Jackson County, he was of the Methodist faith and a member of Jerusalem African Methodist Episcopal Church.  He worked in the construction industry before becoming disabled.

Precious memories will forever remain with two sons, Tyrus Peace (Tori) of Charleston, South Carolina, and Reggie Leon Peace of Miami, Florida; three daughters, Jasmine Peace (Marvin Lewis) of Miami, Florida, Dwanna Newsome of Palm Beach, Florida and Kesiza Straker of Miami, Florida; 14 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters, Deloris Peace Merritt of Miami, Florida, Jennifer Pittman (Otis) and Bobby Dixon both of Marianna, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A service celebrating Don’s life was held Saturday, July 14th at 11a.m. at Jerusalem African Methodist Episcopal Church where Pastor Carlos Redding is pastor and Rev. Jordan officiated.  Memorialization was by cremation with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.

William Fed

Mr. William Fed, of Marianna and formerly of Newark, New Jersey. entered into eternal rest of Wednesday, June 27th at the Covenant Inpatient Hospice Center at Bay Medical.  He was 55 years old.

 Born in Decator, Georgia, he lived most of his adult life in New Jersey before relocating to Marianna, making it his home.

 He leaves precious memories with a daughter, Khalia Byrd of Newark, New Jersey; his mother, Almatha Wilson of Marianna; one sister, Carolyn Fed Kane of Marianna; three brothers,  Gregory Fed of Newark, New Jersey, Cory Fed and Melvin Fed both of Marianna, Florida; two grandsons, Tykeith Pettyford and Quamir Pettyford both of Newark, New Jersey; three aunts, Doris Mills of Lithonia, Georgia, Dora Zachary of Conyers, Georgia and Jacquelyn Blocker of Decator, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

 Final rites will be held Saturday, June 30th at 1pm. at Peoples Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sam Everett officiating.  Memorialization will be by cremation with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home in Marianna, Florida.

Emily Mimm

Ms. Emily Mimm of Grand Ridge entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 22nd in the Noland Center at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.  She was 76 years old.

She lived in Stuart for many years, working as a school crossguard with the Martin County Sheriff’s Department.  After retirement, she relocated to Grand Ridge.

Memories will forever remain with two daughters, Melissa Battles and husband Cornelius of Grand Ridge and Margaret Stoer and husband Scott of Port St. Lucie; one son, Matthew Melton and wife Jennifer of Palm City; one brother, Wayne Lee of Braxton, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Tyler Melton, Kara Cooper and Karissa Cooper; one great grandchild, Hayden Swank; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and freinds.

A celebration of Emily’s life will be held Saturday, June 30th at 11a.m. at the Christian Center Church with Pastor Tyler Ford officiating.  Memorialization will be by cremation with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
