Doris Graves Green

Doris Graves Green, age 83, died peacefully on August 8, 2018 in Port Orange, Florida, after an extended illness. Doris was born December 21, 1934 to Willie C. and Opal M. Graves in Greenville, Mississippi. Doris married Arthur Bailey Green, Sr. in Alford, Florida on November 14, 1954. In addition to having been a long-time member of Alford Baptist Church, Doris served many years as Secretary/Bookkeeper at Cottondale High School in Cottondale, Florida. Upon retiring in 2001, she remained active as a Sunday School teacher and Choir member at Alford Baptist Church in Alford, Florida where her own father had served as pastor many years prior.

Doris was a faithful Christian, devoted wife, loving mother, caring sister, and friend. She had a servant’s heart and faithfully bore testimony to her steadfast faith in God. Doris took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved music, enjoyed playing the piano, reading, watching old movies, travelling, and experiencing new things.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Bailey Green, Sr.; her parents, Willie C. Graves, Sr. and Opal M. Graves; 2 brothers, Willie C. Graves, Jr. and Allen M. Graves. She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Graves Branning and Edna Lynn Graves Nowling; her five children, Suzie (Green) Mercer and husband Jason, Lola (Green) Allard and husband Bill, Art Green, Jr., Margaret (Green) Crossman and husband Jim, Christine (Green) Carnley and husband Ira. Doris had many grand-children, great grand-children, and extended family members.

Doris will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind, but heaven no doubt rejoiced as this good and faithful servant was welcomed into her eternal home.

A Memorial Service for Doris Graves Green will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. central standard time. The location is Alford Baptist Church in Alford, Florida. Pastor Bob Johnson will officiate.

Flowers for the service may be delivered to Alford Baptist Church, 1764 Carolina Street, Alford, Florida 32420. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Florida 32129.
