Mr. James William McKeithan of Fayetteville went to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 11, 2018.
Born April 13, 1919 in Cumberland County NC, he was the son of the late J. Parker McKeithan and Hallie Derring McKeithan. On April 13, 1941, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Bunce at a beautiful home ceremony on Easter Sunday & James’ birthday. They were married 72 years prior to her passing August 16, 2013. Their marriage was a true partnership and they shared one another’s diverse interests. During their marriage they resided in North Carolina and Marianna, Florida. They also enjoyed their Mexico Beach, FL home with family & friends for many years.
James loved the Lord, his family, friends, the American flag and for what it stands. He was extremely intelligent, ingenious, a respected mentor, an enjoyment to many and will be forever missed. One of many scriptures which describe his life is “To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8
James was a Farmer and prior to his retirement owned McKeithan & Sons Farm in Florida. He was a World War II veteran having served with the United States Army in Saipan, Pearl Harbor, Marshall Islands & Guam.
James was preceded in death by an infant daughter, brother Jasper B. McKeithan, sisters Beatrice M. Allen & Naomi M. Lockamy. He is survived by brother Grady P. McKeithan and sister Virginia M. Page; five children, Faye M. Royal of Wallace, Larry J. McKeithan & wife Debbie of Marianna, FL, Diane M. Alabaster & husband David of Fayetteville, W. Lynn McKeithan & wife Theresa of Cypress, FL, Tami M. Ashworth & husband Steve of Fuquay-Varina; six grandchildren, Wendy R. Gadeberg of Wallace, Amanda M. Tyler & husband John of Spanish Fort, AL, Brian P. McKeithan & wife January of Pace, FL, Lee McKeithan & wife Ashley of Spanish Fort, AL, J. Harrison Ashworth of Raleigh and Catherine Ashworth of Fuquay-Varina; six great-grandchildren, Brice McKeithan, Graham Tyler, Stone Tyler, Mary Tanner McKeithan, Evan J. McKeithan and Riley McKeithan and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Visitation will be Sunday January 14 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. The Funeral Service, led by Dr. Dearl L. Bunce and Rev. J. Scott Finicum will be Monday January 15 at 11:00 AM at Jernigan Warren Chapel followed by Graveside Services with Military Honors at Maxwell Cemetery.
