Alyson James is a 17-year old senior at Mariana High School. Saturday night she was crowned the 2018 Miss Northwest Florida queen. She is not your average ‘beauty queen’ however, far from it.
James is an honor student at Marianna High, is dual enrolled at Chipola College with her eye on pursing a degree in nursing. It doesn’t stop there. She is currently a member of Beta Club, secretary of SGA (Student Government Association), an officer in National Honor Society, and an active member of Juniorettes.
That may sound like a full schedule for an ordinary senior, but Alyson is not an ordinary senior. She is a cheerleader and has been since middle school. She was on the junior varsity squad her freshman year at MHS before being selected to be a part of the varsity squad her final three years. Her senior year, she was named All-American from the MHS squad.
Alyson was previously crowned Miss Panhandle in January of 2017, Junior Miss Jackson County in 2013, Junior Miss Florida Palm in 2011, and Little Miss Florida Palm in 2008. She is a senior model for Mattox Photography and is slated to be an Honor Graduate and Distinguished Bulldog when she graduates in May, 2018.
Alyson’s platform while she is the reigning Miss Northwest Florida queen is “Modeling for a Cure”. Alyson hopes to make a difference for those who are battling cancer at an early age. She would like to see young girls have a ‘night to shine’, where they are beautiful despite the trials they are going through with cancer. Alyson feels giving them their night of beauty allows them a sense of normalcy to their life, away from radiation and treatment. Alyson learned firsthand the toll cancer can take on an individual and families from working side-by-side with her mom with Pink Cares.
She is the only child of Robert and Jay Mitchell James of Marianna.
