To say nine-year old Ava Guy has had an exciting last few years would be equal to assuming students are thrilled on the last day of school. In May of 2015, Ava was crowned Little Miss Jackson County and little could anyone have imagined what was ahead for them in the coming two years.
In September, 2015, Ava and her parents, Mike and Leigh Guy flew to Los Angeles, California where Ava brushed elbows with the stars as she was given the red-carpet treatment. Her work was as a personal assistant to the celebrities attending the Emmy’s at the Nokia Theatre. She had the task of giving out gift bags to the stars from her designer.
After her trip to Los Angeles, Ava traveled to New York City in February of 2016 where she had been invited to participate in the New York City Fashion Style Week at Gotham Hall. That was also a red-carpet event with designers from all over the world gathering for the week-long festivities.
Fast forward to May and June 2017 and Ava is in the movies! She, along with her parents and twin brothers attended the filming of A Bad Moms Christmas. Ava and her mom came to the TIMES office Monday to talk about her latest experience. The soft-spoken, pretty hazel-eyed girl spoke about the film as most children would talk about their day to day adventures. When asked what her days were like on the movie set, a very honest Ava said, “We did a lot of sitting around and waiting. We really did a lot of scenes and we had to go back and do them again.” Ava’s favorite part will bring a laugh to all, “All of it was fun but my favorite part was getting to be bad in the mall and getting paid for it,” which brought a smile from Mom’s face. Her being bad was, “I got to sit on the floor and pout and I didn’t want to leave and my dad had to drag me across the floor in the middle of the mall.” Ava was quick to say that had never happened with her in real life. Ava’s twin brothers (Brody and Chase) and parents got in on some acting as well. It is yet to be known how many of the ‘scenes’ that were shot will be used but with the number of them filmed, chances are pretty certain that there will be a family of Guys in A Bad Moms Christmas. Leigh said, “We were kind of there as tag alongs but a few times while she (Ava) was filming they came and asked us to do some things, and so there’s a good chance we will all be in there at some time.” Ava said of her brothers’ experience, “They liked it except having to get up at 4 in the morning.” When asked about the language in the movie, Ava says, “We didn’t hear any bad language but I think there was.” Leigh Guy said, “She has not watched the entire movie, she has only watched the parts that she is in.”
Ava has experienced much more than many adults have in her short nine years, although she will reach double digits July 17 when she turns the big 10. She had the opportunity to meet and work beside Susan Sarandon, Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Jay Hernandez, and Cheryl Hines.
Ava’s talents are limited to the big screen and the walkways. She is an avid hunter, having killed a sizeable buck this year which is now mounted and on display at her home, with three other deer on the year. She killed her first turkey this year, but didn’t elaborate if that was their Thanksgiving meal. She also traded in her cheer pom poms this year for softball cleats. She was as successful at softball as she has been in anything else. In her first year on the field, she was an all-star competing in the district tournament. Ava says, “I love softball, it’s much more fun than cheer, I really like it.”
Ava is the daughter of Mike and Leigh Guy. She is the granddaughter of David and Pam Arnett, Herman Guy, and Vanessa Goforth.
