In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, "It's by their fruit ye shall know them." For most of my life, I've known that if there is a conflict between "what one says", and "what one does", you should always believe the action and not the words.
I have observed two year old children defying instructions from adults. This is because they have already sized up the adult, and they know the promised punishment will never materialize. Sometimes at breakfast, I tell my poodle, Della, to go eat her dog food, but she continues to stand on her hind legs and beg. This is because she knows that if she persists, she will be hand fed some of the rind from my bread.
A few days ago I saw on television five clips of our benevolent leader made during his campaign in which he promised he would never raise taxes on us peons (we who earn less than $200,000.00 a year). The same program reported he signed a tax increase on cigarettes on Feb 4th, less than one month after taking office and the amount of new tax revenues was 33 billion dollars. One of his high level, tax evading appointees has been announcing publicly that we may have to have more tax increases, depending on circumstances.
I think most of us have already sized up our political leaders. Now, my question is this, "If little kids and dogs, neither of whom can read, understand and practice the principles that Jesus was talking about, why can't our leader's? Do you suppose it is because they are not familiar with the Book, or just not as smart as dogs and little kids?
