Jackson County Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce Tiffany Garling addressed the Board Tuesday night in reference to the Economic Development Committee’s selection for the director for the newly formed board.
Garling told the board the committee had met and made their recommendation and she was presenting to the board on behalf of the committee. Chosen was Matthew F. Walsh from Eustis, Florida. Walsh attended University of North Florida in Jacksonville, BA- Marketing Major in 1978. He received an MBA (pending) June 1981- December 1982 from National University, San Diego. From March 2015 to present he is the director/principal/sales; logistics for Port Logistics/ CommerCenters in Orlando/Tampa.
Prior to that from February 2013 to March 2015 he was Economic Development Coordinator for Sumpter County, Florida BOCC in Central Florida.
There were eight candidates who applied by the closing date of Friday, March 30.
Those candidates were: Robert Goetz (Panama City Beach, FL), John McGill (Dothan, AL), Dr. Theresa Majeed (No Address Provided), Gregory Miller (New Franken, WI), Shandrell Mount (Malone, FL), Ben Odom (Marianna, FL), Florence Simpson (Fairfield, IL) and Matthew Walsh (Eustis, FL).
Four of the candidates met the required education and years of experience.
Those candidates were: Robert Goetz, Gregory Miller, Florence Simpson and Matthew Walsh.
The selection committee ranked and selected the top three on Monday, April 9. Those candidates were: Robert Goetz, Gregory Miller and Matthew Walsh.
The selection committee conducted preliminary phone interviews on Monday, April 9 and narrowed the pool to the top two on that date.
The selection committee conducted in depth Skype Interviews with the top two candidates Monday, April 16. Those two candidates were Gregory Miller and Matthew Walsh.
Matt Walsh appeared before the full board on Monday, April 23. The Jackson Economic Development Board voted unanimously to offer the position to Matt Walsh on Monday, April 23.
The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to confirm the selection of the Jackson EDC Board on Tuesday, April 24 at the regularly monthly meeting.
The EDC is currently in the process of scheduling a time to negotiate the terms of an employment contract, start date, etc. with Mr. Walsh.
