Therrel Wendall Gatling

Mr. Therrel Wendall Gatling age 79, of Marianna, went home to be with Lord, Sunday, April 1, 2007 at Jackson Hospital following an extended illness.

Mr. Gatling was born March 9, 1928 in Pinetops, North Carolina to Mr. Julian Irvin Gatling and Mrs. Rosa V. Byrd. Mr. Gatling served his country in the US. Navy. In May of 1957 he married the love of his life, Mary Margaret Nutt. They spent most of their lifetime in Pensacola, Fl where the both worked at the NAS of Pensacola. He worked for the Civil Service as an Aircraft Electrician Supervisor for 32 years. He then moved his family to Georgiana, AL. In 1998 he and his bride moved to Marianna. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and loved spending time with his family.

Mr. Gatling is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Mr. Julian Gatling, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Mary Margaret Gatling of Marianna, two sons, Mr. Therrel W. Gatling, Jr. and wife Bette of Ramona, California, and Mr. Richard I. Gatling and wife Traci of Centerville, Michigan; one daughter; Mrs. Janice Gatling Lanier and husband Ken of Marianna, one grandson, Mr. Ashton Lanier of Marianna; two brothers, Mr. William “David” Gatling and wife Betty of Vero Beach, Fl and Mr. James Earl Gatling and wife Jean of Tarborough, NC; two sisters, Mrs. Janice Lawrey and husband Jack of Vero Beach and Mrs. Mary Virginia Borchers and husband Evan of Jonesborough, GA, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Gatling of Rocky Mountain, NC, one brother-inlaw, Mr. Arthur Nutt and wife Debbie of Pensacola, and a host of nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Caleb, son of Brother Paul and Tracy Lucas and to Dillon, son of Marti and Starla Jones who helped prepare me to be a grandfather.

Services for Mr. Gatling were held Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Brother Paul Lucas and Brother Brandon Griffin officiating. Family received friends one hour prior to service at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Memorialization will be by cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund. Marianna Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
